Quality Treatment With Digital Dentistry

kansas city digital dentistryWe strive to offer care for smiles of all ages in our community, and to do so with quality and precision. Which is why we never hesitate to embrace new technologies! In today’s blog, your Kansas City, MO, dentist talks about how we employ digital dentistry to help with everything from diagnosing smiles to guiding dental implants into place.

Digital X-Rays

In the past, x-rays meant biting down on uncomfortable and unwieldy bite wings. The images then needed a lot of time to develop in harsh chemicals. Now, we have a quicker and more comfortable option that is also more environmentally friendly! With the digital option, we use a small sensor instead of bitewings. The images are available instantly chairside, so no need for harsh chemicals or a lengthy wait time. We can even show you the images and walk you through the diagnostic process. The system employs 90% less radiation than the traditional x-rays, and the homages ensure a diagnosis with greater precision and accuracy.

iTero®

To design restorations, prosthetics, and oral appliances, we need a detailed mold of your smile. At one time, this meant we filled a metal mold with a sticky material, and you had to bite down on it and hold that bite for several minutes. Often the process had to be repeated to get a good mold, and the material never tasted good despite coming in several “flavors”. But now, we have a digital system! With iTero®, we take digital photographs of your teeth and smile from multiple angles, using a tiny camera at the end of a thin wand. This only takes a few minutes. We then combine the images to create a 3D computer model. We then use the model in a lab setting to design and craft crowns, bridges, dentures, Invisalign® aligners and more!

Planning Treatment

With our advanced x-rays and images, we can see the smile in detail, including the position of the teeth, nerve tissues, and sinus cavities. With that information, we can plan for advanced treatment options with greater detail! For example, we can plan and guide dental implants into place for those with missing teeth, and oversee a root canal to treat infection and save a tooth. We also administer anesthesia, and help manage periodontal issues as well.
