When you have misalignment, this could make you feel uncomfortable with your appearance. Your oral health could also suffer with time! Instead of relying solely on braces, we have a cosmetic option to correct uneven smiles. In today’s blog, your Kansas City, MO, dentist talks about Invisalign®.

The Need to Correct Uneven Smiles

Do you have crooked or crowded teeth? Do you have teeth that overlap one another? These could seem like cosmetic concerns, but the fact is that poor alignment could lead to major issues with the health of your smile. For example, the risk of tooth decay and gum disease as cleaning your teeth thoroughly is more difficult. For others, pressure on the bite balance could mean the onset of TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). You may also feel embarrassed about the appearance of your smile! Which is why orthodontic care is so crucial. Fortunately, we have a cosmetic option for your smile.

Creating Invisalign® Aligners

We can employ Invisalign® to help teen and adult smiles without the use of brackets and wires. To get started, we need to create a custom series of plastic aligners. To begin, we will take detailed digital images of the smile from multiple angles, and then use them to create a 3D computer impression. Using this in a lab setting, experts will create a series of aligners. Each one will fit comfortably and gradually shift your teeth into new positions, often in as little as a year for adults or around 18 months for teens.

The Treatment Process

The treatment process is simple. Each day, you wear a set for 20 to 22 hours on average. You do this for about two weeks, at which point you begin to wear the next set in the series. You continue this process for the entirety of your treatment. They can be removed before you eat, so you don’t have to alter your diet. Being removable also means more thorough brushing and flossing, so you maintain better oral health during your treatment. As long as you wear them as prescribed, you can also take them out for special occasions, like graduations, first dates, or even job interviews,
